Standing by the sea evokes two contrasting feelings in me: restriction and ethereal freedom. The sense of restriction comes from standing in the cemetery, reminding me of the phrase “from womb to tomb.” As embryos, we were tenderly confined in our mother’s womb, and in death, we return to the earth, bound once more. Life itself feels like a series of confinements—first as an unadorned child, then as someone shaped and restrained by society. Yet, in contrast, the fleeting sea foam and the boundless ocean give me a sense of freedom, an endless expanse beyond human limits. We spend our lives searching for freedom while constantly being restrained. Perhaps our souls exist on the other side of the sea, deep within the universe.
